Preparations in full swing for the unveiling of the statue of “God” Birsa Munda by former minister and MLA Jeetubhai Chaudhary and the entire tribal community at Nanapodha Birsa Munda Circle.

Birsa Munda was born in Khunti district of Jharkhand. Various information is available regarding his birth year and date. Many places mention his date of birth as November 15, 1875.

Birsa Munda was a hero of tribal society whom tribals still remember with pride. Birsa Munda, who had fought for the interests of the tribals, also fought against the then British rule.On 3 March 1900, Birsa Munda was arrested by the British police in the Jamkopai forest of Chakradharpur. He died in a jail in Ranchi on June 9, 1900 at the young age of 25. He lived a short but incredible life. Birsa became a martyr for the country at the age of just 25 and inspired the struggle against the British that led to the country’s independence. Birsa is still worshiped as a god by Munda caste people living in Singhbhoomi and Ranchi of Jharkhand.

Why celebrate World Tribal Day on August 9?
The United Nations (UNO) was formed on 24 October 1945 to establish peace around the world after the Second World War, to create mutual friendship and full harmony among the countries of the world, to increase the rights and freedoms of each other equally, to increase the poverty from the world, and to focus development on education, health, etc. 50 years after the establishment of 193 countries including America, Russia, China, France, Britain and India, the United Nations (UNO) realized that in the 21st century, in different countries of the world The living tribal tribal community is full of problems like their neglect, poverty, illiteracy, health,lack of facilities,unemployment as well as wandering life, labor. The purpose of solving the above problems of the tribals is to attract the attention of the world in 1994 by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UNO) 9 every year. August was decided to be observed as World Tribal Day.

9th August World Tribal Day is celebrated with great pomp and fanfare in the United States of America, Africa, and Asia.

It is because of the contribution made by Birsa Munda, the so-called Lord of the Tribes, that his picture has been placed in the Museum of the Indian Parliament. Birsa Munda is the only one among the tribal community to have this honour.

History associated with this day
At the beginning of the 21st century, the United Nations found that tribal groups around the world were suffering from many problems. This includes unemployment, child labor and many other problems. Thus the United Nations felt the need to create an organization for this. This was followed by the formation of UNWGIP (United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations). It was decided to celebrate the first International Tribal Day. In this context, the United Nations General Assembly decided in December 1994 that August 9 every year would be celebrated as this day. This date marks the day of the first meeting of the United Nations Working Group in 1982. It was decided to constitute a sub-commission for the promotion and protection of human rights of the indigenous population.
